How to Register for the III Exam Online: Step-by-Step Guide (2026)

Registering for the III exam online is the first real step toward your Licentiate, Associateship or Fellowship qualification — and it trips up more candidates than the exam itself. Miss a document, pick the wrong paper, or leave it until the last day, and you can lose an entire exam cycle. This guide walks you through the whole III exam registration process for 2026, so you can book your seat with confidence.

Who conducts the exam?

All professional exams are run by the Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai. Booking, fee payment, admit cards and results are handled through the III's official member portal — not through any coaching site or third party. Always start and finish your registration on the institute's own website.

Before you begin: what you need ready

Have these on hand before you open the registration form:

If you don't yet know which paper to take, read our guide to the III certification path first — it explains how Licentiate, Associateship and Fellowship fit together.

Step-by-step: registering online

  1. Create or log in to your member account. New candidates enrol as a member/student; existing members simply sign in.
  2. Open the exam enrolment section and select the level you are sitting — Licentiate, Associateship or Fellowship.
  3. Choose your papers. For Licentiate you'll pick the compulsory papers for your stream (life or general) plus any optional you need for credits. Not sure? See how III credit points work.
  4. Fill in your details and upload your photo and signature exactly as specified.
  5. Select your exam mode, city and time slot. III exams are computer-based; pick the centre and slot that suit you early, because popular slots fill up.
  6. Pay the examination fee online and save the payment receipt.
  7. Download your confirmation, and later your admit card, from the same portal. Print it or keep it accessible on exam day.

Documents and photo specifications

The portal is strict about file formats and dimensions. Upload a recent passport-style photo on a plain background and a clear signature on white paper. If a file is rejected, resize it rather than re-uploading the same one — mismatched dimensions are the single most common cause of a failed submission.

Fees, dates and windows

Examination fees, registration windows and exam dates change from cycle to cycle, so we deliberately don't quote figures that could go stale. Check the current fee and calendar on the III website before you pay — and see our companion post on III exam dates, fees and centres for what to look for. As a rule, register well before the deadline: last-day server rushes and payment failures are avoidable stress.

Booking the exam is the easy part — clearing it is the goal. Once you're registered:

Frequently asked questions

Can I register for more than one paper at once? Yes — you can enrol for multiple papers in the same cycle, subject to eligibility and the portal's rules.

Is the exam online or at a centre? III professional exams are computer-based at designated centres/slots you choose during registration.

What if my payment fails but money is debited? Don't re-pay immediately; check the portal status and your bank, and contact III support with your reference number.
