A 30-Day Study Plan to Clear Your III Insurance Exam
You have an III insurance exam in a month and a full life to fit it around. Good news: 30 focused days are enough to clear a single III paper if you use them well. Here is a realistic, week-by-week study plan you can adapt to IC-01, IC-11, IC-14 or any Licentiate subject.
Before you start: the ground rules
- One paper at a time. This plan targets a single subject. The credit system rewards focus.
- Practice over re-reading. These are objective (MCQ) exams — 100 questions, 2 hours, 60% to pass. The fastest way to 60% is doing questions, not highlighting notes.
- Consistency beats marathons. 60 to 90 focused minutes a day beats one exhausting Sunday.
Week 1 — Build the foundation (Days 1–7)
- Days 1–2: Read the syllabus and skim the whole subject once. Do not memorise — just map the territory.
- Days 3–5: Study the first third of the syllabus in depth. After each topic, do 15–20 MCQs on it immediately. Practise free on Certena.
- Days 6–7: Study the second third. Same pattern — learn, then test.
Week 2 — Complete the syllabus (Days 8–14)
- Days 8–10: Study the final third of the syllabus with immediate MCQ practice.
- Days 11–12: Your first full mock exam — 100 questions, timed. Expect a modest score; this is a diagnostic, not a verdict.
- Days 13–14: Review every wrong answer. Sort mistakes into themes and note your three weakest topics.
Week 3 — Attack your weak spots (Days 15–21)
- Days 15–18: Spend most of your time on those three weakest topics. Re-study, then hammer topic-specific MCQs until they stop hurting.
- Days 19–20: Second full mock. Your score should jump — targeted repair is where the gains are.
- Day 21: Start spaced-repetition revision of definitions, section numbers and key figures. Certena surfaces due cards for you automatically once you sign up free.
Week 4 — Rehearse and sharpen (Days 22–30)
- Days 22–25: Alternate full mocks with focused review. Aim to consistently clear 60%+ with time to spare.
- Days 26–28: Light revision — flashcards, section recall, and the topics that still wobble.
- Day 29: One final confidence mock. Then stop studying hard.
- Day 30 (exam eve): Rest, sleep well, and do only a light skim. A calm, rested mind outperforms a crammed, tired one.
In-exam reminders
- Attempt all 100 questions — no negative marking means never leave a blank.
- Use two passes — easy questions first, then return to the hard ones.
- Watch for "NOT / EXCEPT / FALSE" phrasing.
- Manage the clock — roughly a minute per question, leaving time to review.
Make the plan stick
The hardest part of any study plan is showing up daily. Two things help: a fixed daily slot, and a tool that tells you exactly what to revise next. Certena's study plan and spaced repetition do the second part for you — surfacing due questions and your weak topics so every session counts.
